Internet Marketing ~ Web 2.0 ~ Social Media

This is where I am going to place all the cool articles, videos, tutorial’s and podcast that I run across while researching my line of work…Internet Marketing.

I sit in front of this computer it seems like all day and all night and am always stumbling upon great stuff so I figured why not share it with every one. I also bookmark a lot of sites so if you want to view my Delicious Bookmarks feel free.

One of the BEST video’s I have seen to date on Social Media is the video… Social Media Revolution!

The statistics are mind boggling. I mean to think that if Facebook were a country it would be the 4th Largest Country

or my personal favorite since I home school my daughter and use a Virtual School for some of her classes…2009 US Department of Education study revealed that on average, online students out performed those receiveing face-to-face instruction.

Check out the video below to see the other mind boggling statistics and why it’s so important to become a social butterfly. :-)

  1. My son was also enrolled briefly in an online homeschool, but I just couldn’t face the 6 hrs. it took to teach him. The curriculum was fabulous though. :) It was K12 (company) and would recommend it. He’s in a charter school now that has a main focus on college. It is called Vanguard College Preparatory and is part of the Aspire group of charter school. We love it!

      Jeanie,

Don’t I know about those 6 hours. Thank God my daughter is one that can be self taught. I teach her Math, Science and History while she does Spanish, English and Typing online.
She misses the fact that she doesn’t ever “fall behind” in her school work while attending school but as I explained to her this is where time management and perseverance pays off.

She makes her own schedule, does all the math to determine how many assignments she needs to get done to be finished with the class by a certain time, then it is up to her to stay on top of her school work.
I choose to home school not only for the academic side of it but also for the bonding experience. We have such a close relationship and have the best time together. I love being able to experience life with her and teach her everything about life that I know.

I wish I could have schooled my children when they were younger. One of my daughters home schooled for a semester in high school and she was not disciplined enough to manage her time and get the work done. I work full-time outside of the home and was not able to monitor her work. She was enrolled through an online school.

My sister, on the other hand, exclusively home schools her 4 children. They are all under the age of 12 and have never attended traditional schools. The cool thing is that their home is a boat and the children have lived their entire lives on it. My sister is into the “unschool” method of teaching. She incorporates teaching into everyday life while still having formal lessons. Her oldest child helped me make pumpkin pies from scratch over Thanksgiving and it counted towards her schooling because I had her figure out the measurements using mathematical fractions. Also, the pumpkin was a special type of squash, called “Red Warty Thing,” and I had her research it and other pumpkins online.

Thank you for the iWomen club and your blog.

I can completely relate to your daughter not being disciplined. Mine was not either and if it was not for me working from home I would have had to put her back in school as well.

I love the “un schooling” method of learning so much better. Although, my daughter takes three classes online, the other classes I teach her are half books and the other half un schooling. Everything is a learning experience and if she can learn by doing it sticks so much better than just reading from a book and then being tested. Part of her Geography this month is to research Haiti and for science we are learning more about earthquakes. Taking everyday experiences and turning them into a learning experience is priceless.

I’m so glad you have joined the iWomen group and I am really looking forward to getting to know you and the other women better.
