New Media Distribution July 22, 2009

I did it!

I finally completed my project in my New Media Distribution Class. The channel I chose was Blogs and the demographics was women going back to college.

Did you know that according to the Current Population Survey conducted by the Census Bureau, the greatest percentage rise in college attendance was by women 30 and over and that there are now 2.3 million women 30 + years attending college?

I also found this great report that has a ton of statistics and numbers for women demographics and blogging. In the report you can find out how many women participate in blogs on a weekly basis, how many women actually publish blogs and how many women read and post comments to blogs.

I am realizing that us women have a lot to say and are not afraid to step into the college realm with the best of them.

I have to tell you that I give mad props to the women who have families and have to travel to their classes. I think that is why Full Sail Online has been such a blessing to me. I get to be one of those 2.3 million women that got back to college for my Bachelors Degree and never have to leave home, can do my class work on my own schedule, meet great people that are my friends now, and still get to be a mom to my children by being home for them when they need me.

Well, I have been up since 5:30 this morning steadily working on this project and now that it is done I can rest.

Internet Business Models July 5, 2009

WHEW! I just finished my 6th month of the online Internet Marketing Degree Program at Full Sail University. This last month kicked my hind parts. The two classes I had were Internet Business Models and Intro to Statistics. You would have thought that it was the statistics that got me but, nooooooooo, it was Internet Business Models. The first week was low key and pretty easy then WHAM the second week hit me like a ton of bricks. The amount of reading and information that you take in was mind boggling. I would go to bed and when I closed my eyes they would burn so bad they would literally be tearing up.

I started to murmur and complain to my husband about the amount of work and how I didn’t know how in the world people that have full time jobs outside of the home were making the deadlines. It wasn’t until after the second week that it all started to fall into place. The knowledge that I gained in that class still just baffles me. The books that were sent along with the articles, discussions and great resources that were obtained in that class were so worth the hours that was spent behind this computer.

In doing the research, one of my fellow classmates came across this one website that pretty much summed up the Internet Business Models and broke them down in a way that was so easy to understand. To view this great resource visit Internet Business Models and you can get a very small glimpse of what was learned in this class.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the 7th month and I will be taking New Media Distribution Channels and Intro to Scripting Languages. Have already received the books and started reading them. We were suppose to have a week off but I finished the books from Internet Business Models and couldn’t help read the beginning of the New Media Distribution Channels.

I’ll let you know how those classes go when I’m done. I have a feeling these will be heavy hitting classes also but when you are learning so much how can you not look forward to it???

Web 2.0 changing many lives March 22, 2009

Ok! I am just finishing up my 3rd month at Full Sail University. I can humbly say that I am maintaining a 4.0 and enjoying all the classes that I am taking.I have a high goal and want to graduate Magna Cum Laude. I know that no employer is going to ask me what my GPA was in college (have heard that line from MANY people) however, I want to do it for me and for my children. I want to show them that you can shoot high and obtain it. I have learned much about Web 2.0 and how it is changing the lives of so many people. I am on Twitter and follow a lot of great people that know how to explode their marketing through blogs, forums, viral videos and podcast.

It is so fasinating to me to see so many people take their dreams and live them out loud….throwing caution to the wind and embracing the moment.

I WANT THAT! I am learning so much at Full Sail however, between being a home school Mom to two children, a wife to an entrepenuer and a home maker I have to patiently wait my turn. My husband and children are my 1st priority and once I get the girls through school and myself then I can throw caution to the wind and know that my job as a mother is done and I can ….

HOLD UP!  My job as a mother will NEVER “be done” however, I will have raised my children to know God and his ways and be outstanding entrepenuers that treat people with love and respect.

So what have I learned about Web 2.0 o far?

I have learned that it has everything to do with socializing (something at which I love to do) and being a voice on the web. Here is a list of a few Web 2.0 sites that I utilize:

Facebook

Facebook is not only a great place to catch up with old friends, classmates and find long lost relatives but I have witnessed first hand how it has helped people get jobs, promote their businesses and support organizations they are passionate about. This Social Networking site has been instrumental in planning events, keeping my family in contact and allowing me to become friends with other people who are interested in Internet Marketing.

Twitter

Twitter is a Free Social Networking micro-blogging site that gives you 140 characters to tell the world what you are doing. I requested that my whole family get on Twitter and when they started asking what did Follow, Follower and Update all mean my younger brother Ben replied with this:

Following = Stalker             Follower = Groupies          Updates = you update whether you would like to Stalk, or be a groupie. Both are respectable

There are days I sit in front of this wonderful MacBook Pro with 100′s of things I want to learn and just don’t have the time for. Sometimes I wish that in between these classes we had a month to use what we learned and really delve into it. However, the instructors only have 4 weeks to teach us the most amount pertinent information before we move on to the next classes. I have been very blessed to have the instructors that I have. They are all so friendly and very understanding. It has been an awesome experience thus far.

More to come soon! I need to really figure out how this wordpress really works.
